RDA TNWQ Strategic Regional Plan 2026-2031

The RDA TNWQ Strategic Regional Plan 2026–2031 is a region-wide strategy focused on supporting sustainable economic growth, workforce development, liveability and long-term regional resilience.

Developed in close consultation with councils, industry, education providers, community organisations and all levels of government, the Strategic Regional Plan reflects the real priorities, opportunities and challenges facing our diverse region. This collaborative approach has helped shape a shared roadmap to guide sustainable economic development, strengthen liveability and support long term prosperity across Townsville and North West Queensland.

With more than $40 billion in major projects, growing national importance in critical minerals, renewable energy, defence and advanced manufacturing, and increasing workforce demand, the region is entering a significant period of transformation.

The Strategic Regional Plan outlines the priorities and actions needed to help ensure this growth is sustainable, connected and delivers long term benefits for communities across Townsville and North West Queensland.

Townsville and North West Queensland plays a critical role in Australia’s economic future.

The region is home to nationally significant industries, strategic infrastructure, critical supply chains and emerging renewable energy opportunities. At the same time, communities across the region are managing workforce shortages, housing pressures, infrastructure constraints and the ongoing need for sustainable development.
