Access to affordable and appropriate insurance is an important issue for homeowners, landlords, strata communities and businesses across Townsville and North West Queensland.
RDA Townsville and North West Queensland is asking people across the region to share their experiences through the Townsville & North West QLD Insurance Experience Survey.
The survey is anonymous, takes approximately 5–10 minutes and closes Friday, 2 October 2026.
We want to understand what is happening across our region
Insurance experiences can vary significantly across Townsville and North West Queensland.
Exposure to cyclones, severe storms and flooding can influence insurance, alongside factors such as distance, construction and repair costs, access to trades and the number of insurers operating in regional markets.
For some households and businesses, the issue may not only be how much insurance costs, but whether appropriate cover is available at all.
Recent weather events have reinforced the importance of having current local evidence, including widespread rainfall and flooding across parts of North Queensland and the impacts of ex-Tropical Cyclone Koji in January 2026.
What do we want to hear about?
We want to hear directly from homeowners, landlords, strata communities and business owners across Townsville and North West Queensland.
The survey asks about your experience with:
- insurance premiums and how they have changed
- excesses
- access to insurers and suitable policies
- the level and adequacy of cover available
- insurance claims
- decisions to reduce, change or go without cover
- the impact insurance costs or availability may be having on your household, property, investment or business.
Why is RDA TNWQ doing this?
RDA TNWQ is participating in a broader Northern Australia survey to build current evidence about insurance affordability and availability.
The survey will also help provide a better understanding of whether insurance conditions are changing as the Cyclone Reinsurance Pool is implemented.
Importantly, it gives our region an opportunity to contribute local evidence rather than relying solely on broader state or national data.
The findings will help inform discussions with government, the insurance sector and other decision-makers and may contribute to broader regional priorities around liveability, resilience and sustainable economic growth.
Your responses are anonymous, participation is voluntary and anonymous.
Individual respondents will not be identified. Responses will be aggregated and reported as general findings for Townsville and North West Queensland.
